The "Salvation" Jesus OfferedI first have to ask who it is Christians are being saved from? Their loving God? That alone is curious. Even more curious is that he required a human sacrifice of his own "son" to grant salvation. But was the sacrifice even required? That is discussed in more detail on the "Sacrifice" of Jesus page. Here we will focus on the salvation that is promised. Christianity claims that salvation only came about as a result of Jesus' sacrifice. This is simply untrue. According to the Old Testament the Israelites were granted forgiveness all along, and without sacrifice. Psalm 32:5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my
iniquity. I said, "I will confess Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord , and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. Psalm 40:6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced; burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. Psalm 51:16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Micah 6:6 With what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before
the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with
calves a year old? 7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? Another problem is John the Baptist. He clearly offered redemption of sins through baptism before Jesus even died. Mark 1:4 And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Luke 3:3 He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. So why do Christians claim that Jesus is needed for salvation? This is decidedly not the case.
